Это малоизвестная версия «Ромео и Джульетты», вышедшая в 1597 году – за два года до публикации общепринятого варианта. Эти издания называются в шекспироведении первым и вторым кварто соответственно. Исследователи расходятся во мнениях о происхождении текста первого кварто, и нельзя однозначно сказать, какой из текстов предшествует другому. Предлагаемый текст дополняет перевод классической версии «Ромео и Джульетты», выпущенный в 2019 году, и читатель может сравнить оба варианта пьесы.
