В 1599 г. издатель Джаггард выпустил в свет сборник стихотворений под заглавием: Страстный пилигрим. Сочинение В. Шекспира. Это не что иное, как грубая спекуляция именем Шекспира, которое к этому времени сделалось уже чрезвычайно популярным. На самом деле лишь около половины составляющих сборник стихотворений принадлежит Шекспиру, причем многие из них были напечатаны раньше или ходили по рукам и были беззастенчиво использованы издателями; остальные же написаны другими лицами.
