The author's intent is to de-stigmatize mental health issues and encourage openness and dialogue. Issues addressed in the book include: suicide, depression, promiscuity, violence, substance abuse, and isolation. The hope is that by shining a light on these high profile struggles, ordinary people will seek out support without the fear of being labeled or stigmatized. Author Lena Pearlman, LCSW has been involved in the mental health field for 20 years. In addition to being a full-time forensic social worker, she is an adjunct professor, and is in private practice.
